You're never to old to learn music
One vary specific response to a our survey question of, why you came to the Music Learning Workshop, was near and dear to my heart. A 63 year old student was looking for a site that specifically taught with the methods of the Cercone Learning System and found this one.
I am pretty sure that this is the only music site out there that has adopted teaching methods from this system, but I could be wrong. I personally study and collaborate with Donna Cercone, coming up on over17 years now. Re-starting my music studies at the age of 36. 63 and 36 some of that Karma thing going on here.
I don't really find it amazing that us older folks are getting back to music. This is one of the most enjoyable learning experiences and hobbies if you will that you can pursue.
Continue to Learn
For you younger music students I have a simple message. Don't ever stop! Learning to play music will always be a desire you have.
It's never to late to start. Even if you take it down to a trickle of learning one small thing a month it is something you will never regret. It's also a life time learning experience.
For those of us that waited for so long to really get serious, it's been nothing but a joy to make progress. Of course finding music teaching methodologies that work to accelerate the process is a huge find and eliminates that frustration of the slow course to obscurity and frustration.
Attitude is Everything
For those that thought they had been passed by, take heart. It's attitude that makes the difference not the age.
Here's what I mean. You simply need to suspend disbelief and decide to try it. Buy a workbook and give it a try. You have absolutely nothing to lose. Go through the lesson on this site and see if you don't understand the concepts.
You may even find that it's easier than you thought. You might even want to budget some funds and hire a teacher and get specific knowledge of how to play an instrument. Borrow or rent a guitar for a few months.
One thing is for sure if you don't try you'll never know. So what if you find out it's not for you. At least you found out. Maybe you continue and enjoy this great thing called playing music for the rest of your life. Maybe you find out something else and move on to it.
Point is get an attitude about doing or trying it's the only way your going to find out.
–Not sure where that rant came from, but it sure was feeling good when I wrote it.–
A Warning
One thing that you have to realize is that it takes effort. You have to put aside time to study and practice. Make it effective time. We go into that in other parts of the site, but it's a requirement if you really want to learn music.
Here's the warning. You might just get so caught up in learning to play that you'll spend several hours studying and practicing. I've personally spent up to 5 straight hours because I was so caught up in the music that I was working on.
So be careful, don't alienate the family, by practicing so long you run them off to the mall to spend all your money.
